The Abingdon & Oxford Anglers Alliance was formed in 1964 by a few local clubs to safeguard local waters for local anglers.

In 1968 the newly formed Alliance purchased a lake in Standlake to open up as a trout fishery which is still being run today, then in 1976 they bought Sandford on Thames 1000 meters of fishing rights and in 1986 purchased Dorchester Lake to ensure continuous fishing for their members.
All other waters are rented from landowners and the club committees have administered this very successfully for many years.

Over the years some of the clubs have dropped out of the Alliance and some have gone under due to lack of interest in river fishing.

So 2021 we are the Alliance with our star waters Marlborough pool and Dorchester Lake currently the only club still holding on with their individual identity and committee.
