NEW WATER SHARING AGREEMENT

The club is delighted to announce a new water sharing agreement with Littlemore Angling Society (LAS) that enables AOAA members to fish LAS waters in Sandford-On-Thames,.

AOAA Members are now permitted to fish the LAS-controlled stretches of the River Thames in Sandford-on-Thames (areas marked in blue on the map below).

NOTE THAT THIS EXCLUDES THE RDAA STRETCH THAT LAS MEMBERS HAVE RIGHTS TO FISH VIA A SEPARATE SHARING AGREEMENT.

LAS Members are now permitted to fish the AOAA-controlled stretches of the River Thames in Sandford-on-Thames (downstream of the car park at the bottom of Sandford Lane on the Kennington side).

Members must adhere to all fishing regulations, rules, and codes of conduct set by the club whose stretch they are fishing on. Rules can be found on the respective clubs website. Failure to comply with these rules may result in revocation of the reciprocal fishing rights granted under this agreement and may result in the loss of the guilty members permit.

Bailiffs from AOAA and LAS are mutually authorized to check fishing permits and club membership cards on both club stretches of the River Thames in Sandford-on-Thames, regardless of which club controls the stretch.

Not only does this agreement give our members access to new stretches of water. It also empowers both the Bailiff

teams to work more effectively together to reduce misuse and abuse of fishing rights in the area.

We look forward to seeing your future catch photos and reports!

Tight lines from the AOAA Rivers Team!

Angling Trust Volunteering Excellence awards

Dorchester

We are delighted to have received two Angling Trust Volunteering Excellence awards this month for our contributions to the organisation and running of the recent Angling Trust Tench Masterclass that was held on Dorchester Lake in May.

AOAA River Bailiff and Tenchfishers media team lead Paul Calow was the main organiser for this prestigious event that helps to further the work of the joint Angling Trust Tench Fishing: The Future project, whilst also helping to increase the visibility and exposure of our club and Dorchester Lake to the wider angling world.

Dorchester Tench Social 2024 (21-23 June)

Dorchester
Lake

Thanks to all concerned for the help and support for this event.

Huge thanks to all that participated in this weekend’s Tench Social.

The fishing was surprisingly challenging so very well done to those who caught and especially to Graham Johnson who won both the best fish and best total weight of tench caught.

  • Graham Johnson 11lb 11oz
  • Jamie Johnson 10lb 13oz
  • Jamie Cuzen 9lb 2oz
  • Graham Johnson 7lb 3oz (largest fish)

Whilst the tench didn’t want to play ball this time around the social side of the event was a roaring success with a great group of tincateers embracing the opportunity to enjoy the sunshine, banter and bbq with other likeminded anglers.

Big thanks also to the companies/organisations that kindly sponsored the event through their generous raffle prize donations –

The Tenchfishers, Drennan International, The Hookbait Company, Blake’s Baits, and the TC Conservation Group – your support is greatly appreciated

Dorchester Stock Pond Complete

Dorchester
Lake

We would like to start this post with reminding our members about how we are always pushing to make improvements that will benefit the anglers and also future proof our stock of fish in our lakes. The lake has a lot of history and it is just that…. history although an amazing one that on the carp front sadly came to a pause when the otters showed up before the lake was fenced in 2018.

Since then we have always had plans afoot to make improvements and have considerations with all our species of fish. To that accord over the last few years we have stocked carp to sensible levels and recently set our sights on the tench numbers.

Now we look further ahead to safeguarding a consistent stock of fish for many years to come and we have done this by way of a brand new pond.

This project is the outcome of our consistent membership numbers over the last few years that has enabled us to create something we wouldn’t have been able to fund in years gone by.

99% of our members will be happy that we continue to move forward with what we are trying to achieve and for the minority who disagree or are not happy with what we are doing, that’s their problem.

The area around the pond is bare at the moment but plans are in place to seed and plant throughout and we must also fence the area the silt has been disposed of inside a bund although signage is already in place. A few adjustments to swims next door also took place to cater for the pond and the car park around the back is bigger.

In a years time it will look as natural as the rest of the lake but more maintained for obvious reasons. Final decisions are to be made but we look to use this for tench and try and grow on some crucians for the lake with a very small number of other species.

We have and are creating a new future and legacy for Dorchester lake and we are proud to have so many people who are supporting what we are doing.

Please adhere to any signage that is in place!
We would like to thank GE Groundworks for the work they have done in a great timescale.
