We would like to start this post with reminding our members about how we are always pushing to make improvements that will benefit the anglers and also future proof our stock of fish in our lakes. The lake has a lot of history and it is just that…. history although an amazing one that on the carp front sadly came to a pause when the otters showed up before the lake was fenced in 2018.
Since then we have always had plans afoot to make improvements and have considerations with all our species of fish. To that accord over the last few years we have stocked carp to sensible levels and recently set our sights on the tench numbers.
Now we look further ahead to safeguarding a consistent stock of fish for many years to come and we have done this by way of a brand new pond.
This project is the outcome of our consistent membership numbers over the last few years that has enabled us to create something we wouldn’t have been able to fund in years gone by.
99% of our members will be happy that we continue to move forward with what we are trying to achieve and for the minority who disagree or are not happy with what we are doing, that’s their problem.
The area around the pond is bare at the moment but plans are in place to seed and plant throughout and we must also fence the area the silt has been disposed of inside a bund although signage is already in place. A few adjustments to swims next door also took place to cater for the pond and the car park around the back is bigger.
In a years time it will look as natural as the rest of the lake but more maintained for obvious reasons. Final decisions are to be made but we look to use this for tench and try and grow on some crucians for the lake with a very small number of other species.
We have and are creating a new future and legacy for Dorchester lake and we are proud to have so many people who are supporting what we are doing.

Note that all of the fish were fine. It is common for new fish to need time to adjust to the shock of entering a new environment – different temps, oxygen levels etc – hence the exhibited behaviour from some of these little tincas on release into the lake. There’s nothing to worry about! They all eventually swam off when they were ready.

And last but certainly not least, a HUGE thanks of course to the many members who braved the cold weather to make this day’s event such a success.
A few fish caught, PBs achieved and lots of Pike related questions and discussion all made for a successful event that we will certainly be sure to run again in the future. Next time we’ll try to pick a date that doesn’t require the bailiffing team to send out the icebreakers beforehand!
AOAA News Letter – Jan 2022
Yet again it has been a great year for the Alliance. Membership was up for the fourth year running. It is really great to see the fishing club going from strength to strength. I am sure that a lot of you follow the club on Facebook and can see the work being done by the Officers and Bailiffs of the club. A big thanks must go to all of them for the work that has been done.

Availability:
- The Day and Trout permits will be available from the 1st Feb 2022.
- From 15th Feb 2022 the Night permits for existing Night permit members are available.
- From 1st Mar 2022 any Day members from 2021/22 that want a Night permit can apply if any available.
- From 15th Mar 2022, any Night permits left will be on a first come first serve basis.
