Situated in Cassington near Witney, Malborough pool joined the body of waters managed by the A&OAA in 1948. It is a beautiful 11 acre plot set in woodland with the crests of nearby hills and Cassington church spire making up the vista above the treeline. It is well stocked with carp and has a good head of tench and bream, with plenty of silvers for the pleasure angler.
There are plenty of features to fish to in every swim, whether you sneak into the margins or head further out seeking a gravel bar. A lake that has some amazing history and where some of the most well know anglers in the country spent many hours.
The lake (like Dorchester) is now fully protected against predation after a group was set up to raise funds in order to protect a historically important water. An event was setup by a group of like minded anglers where we had a special guest Oz Holness involved to help generate as much interest as possible. The night was a great success and from the proceeds countless tasks have been carried out at the lake along with the introduction of a great head of fast growing carp.
Whilst all the fundraising work was being set up the lake also had astonishing support from anglers who made monthly donations to the fund. We also had a very generous donation of carp from Farriers which again was arranged by the same anglers that set up the fund raising event. The majority of the Farriers fish are being grown on in our stock pond at Marlborough Pool. The Bailiff team have been working hard and the fruits of their labour are paying off with fish growth rates looking very good and the lake looking in great shape with most of the swims upgraded over the last year.
Marlborough Pool is home to approximately 150 Carp to just under 30lb and also has a very healthy head of Bream, Tench, Pike and Silvers topped off by a small but impressive stock of big Crucian Carp.
Historically Marlborough Pool has produced carp to just over 37lb so again has a very bright future
